Abstract

We prepared non-equilibrium Eu-Fe alloy thin films by co-evaporation, and studied their structural, magnetic and transport properties. The magnetization of the Eu-rich Eu-Fe alloy exhibits a small, but distinct kink at an external field of about 80 kOe and the magnetoresistance changes from positive to negative values at this field. We interpret that this anomaly is due to breakdown of the helical spin structure of Eu by the addition of Fe.
