Abstract

Bound excitonic states of holes in modulation-doped quantum wells are predicted to unbind abruptly at a critical density, which depends heavily on an applied magnetic field. The effect should be observable in the magnetoluminescence of high-quality quantum wells in terms of a sudden blue shift and increase in oscillator strength at integer filling factors. The validity of the mean-field approximation is discussed.
