Abstract
The results of magnetization measurements on a UIrAl single crystal in fields up to 7 T at temperatures 1.5-300 K and pressures up to 1.2 GPa and the ambient-pressure data on magnetization up to 40 T, electrical resistivity and specific heat are presented. We conclude that UIrAl is a uniaxial ferromagnet with TC = 62 K and Ms = 0.96μB/f.u. at 1.5 K and exhibits a huge uniaxial magnetic anisotropy with the anisotropy field exceeding 300T. The TC and Ms values vary with pressure at rates din TC/dp = -0.005 GPa-1 and din Ms/dp = -0.021 GPa-1, respectively.
