Abstract

The results of magnetic-susceptibility χ(T) and specific-heat C(T) measurements on single crystals of CePdP and CePdAs and their non-magnetic references LaPdP and LaPdAs between 1.8 and 300 K are reported. It was found that CePdP and CePdAs show ferromagnetic ordering below 5.2 and 6.2 K, respectively. Furthermore, χ(T) and C(T) of CePdAs exhibit a small hump at 4 K which has not been reported so far. This clearly shows that there are successive ferromagnetic transitions in CePdAs. At high temperature, χ(T) of CePdAs is strongly anisotropic, while that of CePdP is rather isotropic. The Schottky-type anomalies around 100 K of CePdP and CePdAs suggest that the first and second excited doublets are separated from the ground state doublet by ∼300 K.
