Abstract
The magnetotransport properties and the structure of the magnetic tunnel junctions (MTJ) with L1 0-ordered FePt alloy electrodes were investigated. The MTJs were synthesized on the MgO(110) single crystal substrates. The structural characteristics of the MTJs were analyzed using x-ray diffraction, reflection high-energy electron diffraction and atomic force microscopy. The tunnel magnetoresistance (TMR) of MTJs was found to be 34% at 77 K with FePt alloy electrodes in which the degree of chemical order, S, was estimated to be ∼ to be 0.7. It was observed that the TMR of the MTJs with FePt alloy electrodes was increased with S, suggesting the spin polarization of L1 0-FePt alloys was enhanced by chemical ordering.
