Abstract
Au/Co multilayered films with Au(111)/Co(002) texture were prepared by alternate deposition technique in ultrahigh vacuum. A large perpendicular magnetic anisotropy and the peculiar magnetoresistance effect found in Au/Co/Au sandwiches were also observed in the Au/Co multilayers. The magnitude of the resistance change, ΔR/R0, reaches to the order of 10-2 and the value at 77 K is enhanced by increasing the repetition of Au and Co layers in the multilayered structure. The MR effect is related to the perpendicular anisotropy and the magnetic domain structure and the ΔR/R0 value is strongly influenced by the multilayered structure as well as the roughness of Au/Co interfaces.
