Abstract

The magnetization M of Bridgman-grown Sn1-xEuxTe has been measured at 4.2 K in fields H up to 23 T. For x < 0.014, M increases smoothly with H and the data can be fitted well with a modified Brillouin function, but better fits are obtained by including the pair exchange explicitly. From fits of the data to a magnetization equation with both single-ion and pair terms, it has been found that the pair exchange interaction is antiferromagnetic with a magnitude of -0.5 ± 0.1 K.
