Abstract

Microstructural evolution during friction stir welding of Ti-15V-3Cr-3Al-3Sn metastable-β titanium alloy was studied. Development of the grain structure was found to be mainly governed by discontinuous recrystallization. The textural pattern formed in the stir zone was shown to be a mixture of 1. 1. 1 and 1. 1. 0 simple shear fiber textures.
