Microstructure of heat treated sm-fe-co-v-zr alloys and their magnetic properties after nitriding

The present work describes ihe microstructural changes in Sm-Fe-V alloys, with addition of Co and Zr after various heat treatments. Sm10Fe53 Co30V6Zr1 alloys homogenized at 1393K consisted of the rhombohedral Th2Zn17-type, the monoclinic Nd3(Fe,Ti)29-typeand the (Sm,Zr)Fe 3phases. However, when these alloys were homogenized at 1423K. they consisted of only the hexagonal Th2Ni17-typephase, which was not found in Sm-Fe-V ternary alloys homogenized at temperatures below 1473K. After annealing at 1073K, theTh2Ni17-typephase changed into the TbCu7-type phase, however besides the precipitation of (Sm,Zr)Fe 3 phase along the grain boundries, the microstructure was very similar. Afetr this alloy was homogenized at 1423K for 20h, cooled to 1393K and then kept at this temperature forlOh, the Th2Zn17-type phase precipitated within the Th2Nii7-typematrixphase. The coercivities of these alloys after nitriding were not greatly changed by these heat treatments, with a typical value of around 40kAm ".
