Abstract
Microwave magnetic field generates induction current on the metal surface and has specific interaction with magnetic moments in ferro-magnetic cases. Recently, microwave heating of separated electric (E) and magnetic (H) fields has been performed, and the effect of microwave magnetic field has been investigated. Selected researches of the authors' separated heating will be presented in this article. Microwave penetration depth into metal is of an order of micron meter or less, therefore, it is not possible to heat bulk metals. On the other hand, however, metal powder and/or films are heated well by microwave. There are various applications of microwave heating of metals. In this paper, it is intended to discuss the fundamental electro-magnetics on metal surface and then present our results on microwave heating of Au nano-thickness films and soda-lime glass/metal powder mixtures.
