Abstract

The average coefficient sensitivity of two-dimensional (2-D) state-space digital filters is defined and can be evaluated by the 2-D controllability and the 2-D observability Gramians. The minimization of sensitivity by means of 2-D equivalent transformations is considered in cases of having no constraint and having the l//2-norm scaling constraint on the state vector. In the first case, the minimum sensitivity realizations are equivalent to the 2-D balanced realizations, modulo a block orthogonal transformation. In the second case, the minimization of sensitivity is equivalent to the minimization of roundoff noise under the l//2-norm scaling constraint.
