Abstract

This study presents the results of the mode I energy release rate of a rectangular piezoelectric material with a central permeable, impermeable or open crack under electromechanical loading. Recently proposed non-linear electrically discharging crack is also considered. A plain strain finite element analysis is performed, and the effect of applied electric fields on the mode I energy release rate is discussed in detail.
