Abstract

The purpose of this study is to develop a simple mathematical model to estimate the cuttings concentrations in drilling because the most important problem in drilling is the efficient removal of cuttings. The results calculated using the model are compared with the preliminary experimental results obtained using a single horizontal pipe without an inner pipe. The agreement was observed to be good. Furthermore, results from the analytical investigation on the effects of the diameter ratio between the inner pipe and outer pipe, and the eccentricity on the relationship between the maximum amplitude of the pressure fluctuations and the cuttings concentrations are presented and discussed.
