Abstract

The formation of an icosahedral phase in rapidly solidified Hf65Au17.5Ni10Al7.5 and Hf65Au17.5Cu10Al7.5 alloys. These chemical compositions are close to that of the Hf-Pd-Ni-Al alloy. These alloys exhibit a multistage devitrification behavior upon heating with the formation of an icosahedral phase of faceted, nearly spherical morphology, at the first stage.
