Abstract
We have performed angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (formula presented) Ce (formula presented) resonant photoemission spectroscopy (formula presented) and Ce (formula presented) x-ray absorption spectroscopy studies on the layered cerium compounds (formula presented) (formula presented) and Ir), which show competition between superconductivity and antiferromagnetism. The results suggest that the Ce (formula presented) electrons in both compounds are nearly localized. We have found that although the Ce (formula presented) electrons in the superconducting (formula presented) are more delocalized than those in the antiferromagnetic (formula presented) their electronic structures are very similar to each other.
