N2 - The nested polymerase chain reaction technique was compared with the conventional smear and culture methods for detection of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The nested polymerase chain reaction used in this study showed excellent specificity, sensitivity, and agreement with the conventional methods for 417 clinical samples, indicating a contribution to the rapid diagnosis of mycobacterial infectious diseases.
