A new self-sensing method using piezoelectric actuators for semiactive vibration suppression was proposed that was also implemented with the Kalman filter. Experiments and numerical simulations demonstrated that the self-sensing method had significantly good suppression performance, where the method separated electrical status into two cases and characterized each of these. The discriminant matrix was derived through mathematical analysis based on the PBH rank test that determines the observability of the self-sensing system. The analytical investigation gave the self-sensing method a guarantee for actual applications.
