Abstract

Three odd-odd N = 73 isotones, namely 128Cs, 130La, and 132Pr, have been studied via (HI, xnγ) reactions. In all three cases, ΔI = 1 side bands of the πh11/2vh11/2 yrast bands were discovered. This extends the systematic observation of nearly degenerate πh11/2vh11/2 doublet bands in the neighboring N = 75 isotones; these were interpreted as resulting from chiral symmetry breaking in the intrinsic body-fixed frame.
