N2 - An acoustic domain in CdS crystals modulates a radiated optical beam near the intrinsic absorption edge. This paper reports that the equivalent band-gap alteration caused by the scattering effect and intrinsic absorption are superimposed and cause optical modulation. The equivalent band-gap alteration is dependent on sample thickness but the intrinsic absorption is caused by the Franz-Keldysh effect and is not affected by sample thickness.
