Abstract
The optimum values of exchange coupling for perpendicular media with a range of saturation magnetization values were determined using the micromagnetic simulations with random microstructures. The optimum recording field was determined using a single pole head. It was found that the maximum vertical component of the head field in the centre of the medium was about 5.4 kOe.
