Abstract

Organic-inorganic hybrid liquid crystals (LCs) with thermotropic cubic liquid crystallinity have been developed. First, we prepared amino-substituted dendron molecules, G1NH2 and G2NH2, and TiO2 nanosheet-coated spherical monodispersed particles, T90, T280, and T500, with different sizes, 90, 280, and 500 nm, respectively. For hybrid G1NH2-T280, the mixing ratio and the surface properties of the spherical particles were decisive factors for the induction of hybrid liquid crystallinity. Characterization of the LC phases by using SAXS and Theological measurements was also studied.
