Abstract

The nickel-rich portion of the vertical section between nickel-solid solution and titanium nitride was studied using both sintered and arc-melted alloy specimens where a quasi-binary eutectic was found. The eutectic composition was about 10 wt% Ti and 1. 6wt% N, and the melting point was 1626 plus or minus 4K. Nitrogen gas was liberated upon formation of nickel-solid solution, but not from the liquid phase during sintering.
