Abstract

We previously reported the photo-oxidation method for preparing charge-photocontrolled cationic poly(styrene) particles in water. When the aqueous dispersion was irradiated with UV light, the zeta-potential was shifted negatively due to photo-oxidation and the average diameter was maintained. In this study, we report that the photocontrol method of zeta potential was applicable to several types of poly(styrene) particles, such as cationic, zwitterionic and anionic microspheres. The poly(styrene) particles were prepared by soap-free emulsion copolymerization. The changes of zeta potential and average diameter by UV light exposure were investigated using the three-kind of poly(styrene) microspheres.
