Abstract
The internal state distribution of the nascent OH fragment produced by the photodissociation of formic acid monomer has been investigated. Formic acid is photolyzed at several wavelengths (220-250 nm) corresponding to the S1(nπ*) ← S0 transition. The ejected OH fragment, monitored by laser-induced fluorescence, is vibrationally and rotationally cold. The internal energies of the OH fragments and also the ratio of the two spin sublevels 2Π1/2/2Π3/2 decrease with decreasing the photodissociation energy.
