Abstract
We have studied electronic structure of ultrathin Fe films evaporated on Au by X-ray and ultraviolet photoemission spectroscopy, focusing on submonolayer-coverage region. As Fe coverage decreases, Fe2p core-level spectrum shows asymmetry just as in bulk alloy AuFe. Fe3d-derived state evolves in rather wide energy range but appears to shift towards EF with decreasing coverage, which could be reasonably explained within the Au5d-Fe3d hybridization picture.
