Abstract

An expression for the time development of a three-level molecular system in a strong laser field that for the relevant absorption spectrum are derived taking into account the photon statistical effect. The field is assumed to be characterized by a coherent state in which the photons are distributed according to a Poisson distribution with mean photon number n. Model calculations of the time-dependent populations and the absorption spectra are carried out to demonstrate the photon statistical effects. The strong coherent field causes a beat localization of the population in a time domain, which does not appear in the number state field. The origin of the beat localization is clarified.
