Abstract
The photo-induced structural change on the surface of multi-layer of C 60 and C84 has been investigated by scanning tunnelingmicroscopy in ultra-high vacuum. The image shows a variety of intra- and inter-molecular patterns, exhibiting the orientational orderings of molecules with respect to their neighbours. Essentially the same patterns were observed for C60 and C84. These novel nanometer-scale structures come from the local electronic structure induced by a laser beam and may find possible practical applications in optoelectronic devices.
