Abstract

The evolution of giant dipole strength with neutron excess for the neutron-rich oxygen isotopes from A=17 to A=22 was measured systematically. It was found through all neutron-rich oxygen isotopes investigated that the dipole strength appears to be strongly fragmented within considerable fraction observed well below the giant dipole resonance, much in contrast to the dipole response of stable nuclei.
