Abstract

It is shown that the reduction in soliton interaction by bandwidth limited amplification is entirely due to adiabatic narrowing caused by excess gain, in which the input soliton pulse achieves a narrower steady-state pulse. The bandwidth limitation is used to generate a narrow steady-state soliton by stopping the adiabatic narrowing, but does not reduce the interaction forces by directly changing the soliton spectrum. When the asymptotic soliton solution is used as an input, there is no reduction in the soliton interaction.
