Abstract

A new measurement method of polarisation mode dispersion (PMD) in optical fibres based on delayed self-heterodyne optical frequency domain reflectometry (OFDR) technology is proposed and demonstrated on an automatic measurement system. The results of intercomparison of the ITU-T international PMD round robin measurements on two polarisation-maintaining fibre specimens are presented.
