Abstract

Porous bulk metallic glasses recently attract increasing scientific and industrial attention due to their unique mechanical, physical, chemical, thermal, electrical and acoustic properties. In the present study, porous Zr55Cu30Al10Ni5 bulk metallic glass specimens were fabricated by a spark plasma sintering process using the Zr 55Cu30Al10Ni5 glassy alloy powders made by argon gas atomization method. No crystallization was observed in the sintered porous bulk glassy alloy. The thermal stability of the sintered porous glassy alloy specimen was similar to that of the original powder. The sintered porous glassy alloy specimen exhibited larger plastic ductility and lower Young's modulus than those of the as-cast alloy specimen.
