Abstract

A new compound, Y2.0Sr5.0Cu6.0C0.9O16.2, was prepared at 1273 K under an atmosphere of O2CO2 (partial pressure of CO2:PCO2=0.010 MPa). The X-ray powder diffraction pattern of the compound could be characterized by tetragonal symmetry (a=3.848, c=11.185 A ̊). This new compound may have a structure related to that of YBa2Cu3O7-y (123). Assuming the 123 structure, the structural formula of this new compound is described as (Y0.86Sr0.14)Sr2(C0.4Cu0.6)Cu2O7. The density of 5.48 g/cm3 calculated from this formula agreed with the observed density (5.6 g/cm3).
