Abstract

Single Al-Pd-Re icosahedral quasicrystals with a maximum diameter of 5 mm have been grown by a slow cooling method on the basis of a partial phase diagram determined in the present study. Laue X-ray and electron diffraction verified the highly ordered structure of the single icosahedral quasicrystals. The electrical resistivity ρ of the single quasicrystals was measured to be 2000-4000 μΩcm at 300 K and 3000-6000 μΩ cm at 2 K, revealing a negative temperature dependence with a ρ4.2 K/ρ 300 K value smaller than 2.
