N2 - A type of anode electrocatalyst for methanol oxidation, which was important for their application to direct methanol fuel cells, was synthesized by the reaction of tetrabutylammonium α-undecatungstosilicate and hydrogen hexachloroplatinum in acetone, followed by washing with water. This polyoxometalate coordinated platinum stoichiometrically in the lacunary site of Keggin-type polyanion. This polyoxometalate showed high methanol oxidation current despite low Pt ratio and oxide-base catalyst. This kind of electrocatalyst has the advantages of low Pt utilization, high Pt dispersion, acid tolerance, and well-characterized material as molecularitic metal oxide.
