Abstract

Recently there have been many reports on Fe-N film because of its high saturation magnetic flux density and high permeability. However, there have been few studies on read-write characteristics using this material. We previously pointed out the remarkable head noise induced by Fe-N thin films in single-pole heads. To alleviate this problem, the conditions of the film deposition process were investigated in order to enable use of such films as the main pole of single-pole type perpendicular magnetic heads. As a result, we found that the stress and magnetostriction of films have to be suitably controlled in order to suppress head noise and achieve high sensitivity.
