Abstract

X-ray magnetic scattering experiment has been performed on the antiferromagnetic order in GdAs. The superlattice reflections with 〈1/21/21/2〉-type propagation vector appear below TN. The energy spectra around the L3 absorption edge of Gd exhibit asymmetric interference structures. From the analysis of the spectrum, with the knowledge of the magnetic structure, it is estimated that the 5d spins are oppositely polarized to the 4f moment. The critical exponent β = 0.31±0.06 has been deduced from the temperature dependence of the intensity.
