Abstract

(RE1-xSrx)8Cu8O20 compounds were prepared for RE = Pr (x = 0.35) and RE = Nd (x = 0.40) under 100 MPa of 20% O2-80% Ar gas (PO2 = 20 MPa) at 1273 K. Their crystal structures characterized by X-ray diffraction and electron diffraction are tetragonal, space group P4lmbm, with lattice constants of a = 1.07920 and c = 0.38057 nm for RE = Pr and a = 1.07961 and c = 0.37841 nm for RE = Nd. They are isostructural with (La1-xSrx)8Cu8O20-δ (0.16 ≤ x ≤ 0.24). The resistivity at 300 K was 3.4 mΩ cm for RE = Pr and 7.0 mΩ cm for RE = Nd and decreased with decreasing temperature down to 13 K. The magnetic susceptibility shows Curie-Weiss behavior for both compounds.
