Abstract
To obtain unequivocal evidence for the rotation of two porphyrin rings in conventional cerium(IV) bis(tetraphenylporphyrinate) double decker analogues we newly synthesized 3 with one electron-withdrawing 4-pyridyl group and three electron-donating 4-methoxyphenyl groups per one porphyrin ring. VT-1H NMR and HPLC studies provided evidence strong enough to conclude that the two porphyrin rings do rotate in a speed a little slower than the 1H NMR time-scale.
