Abstract
This paper presents a new method for roundness measurement in on-machine conditions, which is named the mixed method. In this method, the displacement at two points and one angle at one of the two points including the information of the roundness and the rotational errors are detected simultaneously. A differential operation of them cancels the rotational errors and a deconvoluting operation of the differential data gives the correct roundness. Differing from the 3-point method, this new method can measure high frequency components correctly. A new optical sensor with a fiber system to realize the mixed method is developed in this paper. It is confirmed that the resolution of the displacement probe and angle probe of the sensor is 0.1μm and 0.6 sec, respectively. Roundness measurement is also performed.
