SAM analysis of impurity segregation at interface between inclusions and matrix in an impure iron alloy

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

It is shown that the segregation of impurities can occur at interfaces between inclusions and matrix as well as at grain boundaries in iron containing impurities. It is suggested that the segregation may be an important factor in the embrittlement of steels even if the steels do not reveal grain boundary fractures Microprobe scanning Auger microscopy (SAM) is expected to be a powerful technique for clarifying fracture mechanisms by such metallographic analyses.
