title = "Seasonal change of groundwater flow and its effect on temperature distribution in Sendai plain",
abstract = "A heat transport model that accounts the effects of groundwater flow was developed to investigate the seasonal changes of temperature distribution patterns and heat flux in Sendai plain. One hour groundwater temperatures up to the depth of 50-60 m and water levels at different aquifer levels were measured in three observation wells. Three dimensional groundwater flows were simulated by means of the MODFLOW numerical code. Observed and simulated water levels were matched with the Domenico and Palciauskas s analytical solution for the simultaneous transfer of heat and groundwater to obtain the corresponding temperature distribution. These results were interpreted from the observed temperature records at different aquifer levels. 47.5 mW/m of maximum vertical heat flux was estimated near to the Nanakita river and it also noticed about 17% heat flux change during two extreme precipitation events of simulation time.",
