Abstract

A wideband equalizer is used for the second and third order dispersion compensation of very short pulses transmitted through a 66 km-long dispersion-shifted fiber (DSF) around the zero-dispersion wavelength. The equalizer comprised two nonlinearly chirped fiber Bragg gratings (FBG) and a four port optical circulator. The waveform changes in picosecond pulses transmitted through a 66 km-long DSF with and without the equalizer are investigated to evaluate the equalizer. Results showed that both the second and third order dispersion are simultaneously compensated for by the equalizer.
