Abstract

Transverse mode conversion by second harmonic generation is demonstrated using focused axially symmetric, polarized beams with spatial variation of ellipticity. Superposition of higher order transverse modes of Hermite-Gaussian or Laguerre-Gaussian beams forms peculiar intensity patterns.
