    Abstract

Strength and toughness of Al//2O//3 based ceramics were improved by dispersing ZrO//2(Y//2O//3) and nonoxide materials such as SiC, TiC, TiN and B//4C. Significant toughening and hardening were attained in Al//2O//3-ZrO//2-SiC and Al//2O//3-ZrO//2-TiC composites.
