Abstract

In the field of neurosurgery, stereotaxic operations making lesions are carried out under precisely monitoring and controlling temperature. For the operations, the application of the induction heating utilizing temperature-sensitive magnetic materials has been proposed. The heater in this method was magnetic materials whose iron loss and permeability largely depend on temperature. This method, which is called 'Soft Heating', has an advantage in that the attained temperature is controlled automatically because of temperature-dependence of heat generation and therefore is self-limiting. 3 refs.
