Abstract

Current understanding of the structure and energy of interphase boundaries formed during phase transformations and precipitations in steel was reviewed. First, the classification of boundary structure was revisited. In the following, the methods to measure boundary energy and the typical values measured in ferrous alloys were summarized. Finally, the calculation of boundary energy, in accordance with classical and non-classical nucleation theories, and by the use of atomic potential was reviewed.
