Abstract
A study was carried out on aluminum killed hot-rolled plain, low-carbon steel, for the purpose of assessing the process of plastic strain zone evolution during loading of the specimen with a crack. All specimens were manufactured from sheet iron of one and the same heat, the sheet thickness being of 3. 1 mm. They were heated at 1030 degree C for 2 hours and cooled at a cooling rate of 60 degree C/hr in vaccuum furnace. An evaluation of parameters of plastic strain is made. Temperature and rate dependences of fracture toughness are analyzed.
