Abstract

The activation energy of ordering (QS) and of atomic interdiffusion at Fe/Pt interfaces (QD) was discussed to clarify the formation process of L10 Fe-Pt ordered phase in Fe (t Fe)/Pt (tPt) multilayers. It is found that the Q S takes a minimum of ∼ 0.7. eV when the Fe and Pt layer thicknesses were equal. This value was found to be lower than that of the Fe-Pt single layer and the self-diffusion energy. It shows that the enhanced ordering process of the multilayers was directly correlated with the rapid interdiffusion at the Fe/Pt interface.
