Abstract

The paper presents picosecond-to-femtosecond soliton pulse transmission by using a distributed erbium doped fiber amplifier (DEDFA). The DEDFA was used to not only to compensate for optical loss but also to trap solitons within the bandwidth of the gain profile and thus suppress the soliton self frequency shift. The possibility of sending a 200-Gbit/s soliton signal more than 400 km by using a DEDFA and soliton control was shown.
