Superconductor Bi2212 fiber growth from the melt by micro-pulling down technique

Bi2±xSr2CaCu2Oy fibers have been grown using the micro-pulling down (μ-PD) technique. The fibers were produced from melts containing different bismuth concentrations. Growth rates (about 0.4 mm/min) were found that allowed preparation of superconducting fibers with high critical temperature (Tc≈90 K). The fibers contained plate like single crystals each crystals oriented with the a-b plane parallel to the fiber axis which is the easy growth condition.
